Pacific University Legends Golf Classic

Portland native Peter Jacobsen and former Portland Beavers pitcher Jaret Wright add a local flavor to the upcoming Pacific University Legends Golf Classic.

For years, The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club was the home of "Peter's Party." Now, Peter Jacobsen returns to The Reserve to party with KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer at the Pacific University Legends Golf Classic.

The second annual celebrity tournament, a fundraiser for Pacific University's 20-sport athletics program, takes place July 27 and 28 at The Reserve in Aloha.

Jacobsen, a Portland native, is one of golf's most famous ambassadors and renowned personalities. Jacobsen hosted The Fred Meyer Challenge for 17 years, the last five years of which were held at The Reserve. A 30-year fixture on the PGA Tour and a member of the Champions Tour the last four years, Jacobsen won seven tour events and made two Ryder Cup appearances.

Jacobsen's production company, Peter Jacobsen Sports, produces a number of golf related events, including the August JELD-WEN Tradition in Sunriver. A noted musician, Jacobsen has played in his own rock band, Jake Trout & The Flounders, for years.

Adding to the Legends Golf Classic's local flair is Major League Baseball pitcher Jaret Wright. Currently a free agent, Wright in an 11-year veteran of the big leagues with stops with the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles. He made a brief minor league appearance with the Triple-A Portland Beavers during the 2003 while a member of the Padres' organization. Wright originally came up to the big leagues with the Cleveland Indians, compiling an 8-3 record in the first 16 starts of his 1997 rookie season, which was capped by two starts in the World Series.

Hosted by KISS lead guitarist Tommy Thayer, the Pacific University Legends Golf Classic will feature some of the biggest names in music, entertainment, sports and golf to raise funds for Pacific's 20-sport intercollegiate athletics program. The field includes PGA Tour standouts John Daly, Shaun Micheel, Jason Gore and Tommy Armour III; popular actor/comedian George Lopez, former Major League Baseball players Bobby Grich, Chuck Finley, Chili Davis and Scott Erickson; former NFL standouts Mike Sherrard and Preston Pearson and world long drive champion Sean Fister.

The tournament field also includes former "Monday Night Football" sideline reporter Lisa Guerrero, legendary NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine, actors Donny Most and Clint Howard, Oregon head football coach Mike Bellotti, Warrant guitarists Joey Allen & Eric Turner, singer/songwriter Ray Kennedy and Doc McGhee, the legendary manager of Bon Jovi and KISS. Rising country star Crystal Shawanda will be the featured artist for the tournament's Sunday concert.

A limited number of playing spots remain available for the 2008 event. The tournament begins on Sun., July 27, with a dinner, auction and concert featuring Thayer and other musicians in the tournament field. The golf takes place on Mon., July 28, on The Reserve's two world-class courses with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. A clinic featuring PGA professionals and a putting contest will precede the tournament.
