(July 25, 2008) – It took one extra hole but Eugene Wong wrapped it up and captured British Columbia’s amateur title in a playoff with Parker Lilly of Victoria, B.C. at the 106th B.C. Amateur Championship at Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, B.C. Wong lead the round until hole 15 where he bogeyed and Lilly finally pulled even. The last three holes saw the two neck and neck but Lilly’s putter just wasn’t working for him when he had a chance for birdie at 17 and 18. “Parker played a smart, solid round,” says Wong. “I thought he had me, but I sunk a clutch putt on 18 and forced another hole.” Wong’s victory makes this his third big title in month after winning the B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship and the Callaway World Junior Golf Championship. “I can’t lie,” says Wong with a smile. “This is my triple July.” Wong carded a one-over 71 for the day to finish with a tournament-total score of 3-under 277 followed by Parker Lilly who fired a two-under 68 to also stand at 3-under 277.
